While I was listening to the radio driving to work this morning,
every channel was dominated by the news of the U.S. presidential
election, but something made my ears perk up. The NPR host was
discussing job losses and how robots are taking over our jobs,
which reminded me of what I heard at the Gartner ITXPO. During
Gartner’s recent conference, discussions focused on what lies ahead
from a technology perspective. Artificial intelligence (AI) and
advanced machine learning including systems that learn, predict,
adapt and can run autonomously (robots and autonomous vehicles)
were featured heavily.

A Digital Roadmap

At Gartner’s ITXPO more than 10,000 CIOs, senior IT and security
executives, analysts, business and technology experts attended
keynotes, workshops and roundtables where they looked at the future
and rethought ways they should lead their companies and shape their
customers’ experiences. David Cearley, Gartner vice president and
fellow, outlined key technology trends for 2017, and other
presenters both from Gartner and within the industry discussed the
Intelligent Digital Mesh and disruptive technologies such as AI,
intelligent apps, IoT, digital twin, virtual and augmented reality,
blockchain, chatbots, adaptive security architectures and much
more.

Technologies Make Everyday Tasks Easier

From the prediction of the average person having more
conversations with bots than with their spouse by 2020 to the
proliferation of autonomous vehicles including autonomous ships by
2030, everyday tasks are being changed by technological advances.
